Let’s start with a few basics shall we?

The #1 mistake people make is that they don’t give their poor lil pits enough time to make the adjustment.

Think about it… you’ve likely been clogging your pores with chemicals for over 10+ years before even knowing Natural Deodorant is a thing.

Detox Period

The detox period is not something to be worried about, in fact - many people don’t even experience a detox period. Others, can experience a 2-6 week period where you notice that your body smells more than normal, and is extracting more sweat under your arms than you’re used to. This is totally fine, and trust me, its worth pushing past this minor glitch, to make the switch for good. During this time your body is purging the aluminium salts from your underarm pores.

Your body will normalise your sweat production, give it a few weeks to regulate. It’s impossible to predict exactly how long this phase will be since everyone’s bodies are different depending on the current chemical buildup in your body.

Top tips for making a seamless switch:

1. Wash Daily 🛁 - it seems obvious, but taking regular hot showers or baths will encourage your pores to open and release all those trapped “toxins” quicker.

2. Exfoliate 💦 - a gentle scrubbing loofa will help to get some toxins out, just make sure you’re not washing with soaps filled with chemicals. Natural ingredients (or plain water) is best for this sensitive skin area!

3. Armpit 'mask'🥒; in your pantry you will likely have some staples that can be mixed together, that really help speed up the detox. Its essentially a face-mask, but for your pits.

Armpit mask recipe:
a) Mix 1 table spoon of Bentonite clay, with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1-2 teaspoons of purified water.
b) Apply a thin layer to each pit for about 5-20 minutes and then wash off.

4. Re-Apply - Take your deo with you, its a great idea to re-apply in the first few days. If you’re feeling a bit nervy about heading out during detox, pack your deo in your bag and apply when you’re on a b-room break.

5. Wear breathable fabrics 🧺 - high quality fabrics will really help keep sweat and smell at bay. Sweating is intensified by synthetic fibres, so opt for cotton, linen or bamboo.

6. Acidic Wash 🍋 During your shower - place a cloth of vinegar (ACV is best or lemon juice!) and hold it against your armpit for a minute. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which neutralises odours by killing the bacteria that make the smells.
